Susan Knoppow, CEO Wow Writing Workshop
With 30 years of experience as a professional writer, teacher and writing coach, Susan
Knoppow has worked with students around the world and trained hundreds of school
counselors and independent consultants on the ins and outs of college essay coaching.
Before co-founding Wow Writing Workshop with Kim Lifton, Susan spent many years as a
speechwriter for senior executives at General Motors. She has also taught college- and high
school-level creative writing and composition and has created courses on a myriad of subjects
for clients nationwide. Her background as an instructional designer has taught her to create
clear, comprehensive presentation materials that almost anyone can master, regardless of their
teaching and coaching experience.
Susan and Kim co-wrote and helped produce an award-winning documentary, No Ordinary Joe:
Erasing the Stigma of Mental Illness, which aired on public television stations throughout the
US. They are also co-authors of 3 books: How to Write an Effective College Application Essay –
The Inside Scoop (1) for Parents (2) for Students and (3) for Counselors.
Susan holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Fine Arts in
Writing from Vermont College. In addition to her work in the college admissions, realm Susan
writes and speaks on the topics of gender, sexuality and parenting.
